Pekalongan is one of the cities famously known as The World’s City of Batik. One type of batik that has developed and is closely associated with coastal areas like Pekalongan is coastal batik (batik pesisiran). Coastal batik is characterized by its diverse motifs, including the use of fauna ornaments as aesthetic elements. These motifs can be analyzed through an ethnozoological approach to broaden public knowledge about the relationship between local culture and fauna. This study aims to describe the ethnozoological aspects found in the motifs of Pekalongan’s coastal batik and to assess the feasibility of a developed reference book based on content validation, media validation, and community responses. The research employed a mixed-method approach, combining ethnographic methods and the 4D development model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate), which was limited to the Develop stage. The study identified 18 animal species depicted in the motifs of coastal batik and 2 animal species whose body parts are used in the production of malam (batik wax). The developed reference book received a content validation score of 92.7% from subject matter experts and 87.5% from media experts, both categorized as highly feasible. The community response test yielded a score of 93.2%, also categorized as highly feasible. These findings indicate a close relationship between humans and animals in daily life, not only as a source of livelihood but also as symbolic elements in cultural expressions such as batik. Therefore, the developed reference book is considered appropriate and suitable for use as an additional source of information for the general public.
