Aluminum is a metal for equipment materials in industry because it has superior properties such as being strong, light, and easy to shape, but is easily deformed and has low hardness and wear resistance. To improve the physical and mechanical properties of aluminum can be done through the anodising process. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the type of electrolyte on the anodising process on the efficiency of the process and product thickness of the oxide layer and the mechanical properties (hardness) of the aluminum surface. The aluminum anodissing process was carried out in various types of electrolytes (sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, oxalic acid, chromic acid,) with a concentration of 15%. The anodising process temperature was kept constant at 25 ⁰C with a processing time of 20 minutes, and a voltage of 18 v. The results showed that the anodising process in sulfuric acid solution had the highest efficiency of 51.98% than the other three electrolytes, and produced the highest oxide layer thickness of 13.88 m and aluminum surface hardness of 287.9 HV, in phosphoric acid solution.
