Diabetes mellitus can trigger infections, one of which is candidiasis caused by Candida albicans.
Candidiasis treatment with antibiotics can cause resistance, so it is necessary to use alternative natural
ingredients that function as antifungals, one of which is manila sapodilla (Manilkara zapota). The peel of
the manila sapodilla fruit has not been widely used, so it is necessary to utilize the waste of the manila
sapodilla fruit peel. The aim of the study was to determine the antifungal activity of the extract of the manila sapodilla fruit peel against Candida albicans. Extracts were made using maceration method with 70% ethanol as solvent. Manila sapodilla peel extract was screened for phytochemical compounds of secondary metabolites, and antifungal activity was tested by well diffusion method. Manila sapodilla fruit peel extract contains flavonoids, alkaloids, and tannins. Antifungal testing of the peel of the sapodilla manila fruit at extract concentrations of 30%, 40%, 50% and 60% respectively resulted in an average inhibition zone diameter of 3.827 ± 0.947 mm; 5.460 ± 0.337 mm; 6.673 ± 0.351 mm; 8.053 ± 0.720 mm. Manila sapodilla fruit peel extract has antifungal activity against Candida albicans.
