A study was conducted on determining the synthesis pathway of the type of impurity in methamphetamine in samples obtained from investigators' allowance evidence tested using the GC-MS method. Based on the experience of the author who conducted a qualitative examination of methamphetamine compounds at the Forensic Laboratory of the North Sumatra Regional Police, it was deemed necessary to carry out an impurity examination of evidence, especially on the confiscation of large amounts of evidence so that the route of synthesis, chemicals and precursors used in production could be identified mapping of the circulation of evidence and tracking of the acquisition of chemicals is carried out for further restriction and action for distributors who do not have/abuse their distribution permit. The method used is testing with GC-MS. Based on the GC-MS test, there were 4 impurities obtained, namely n-methyl methamphetamine, n-acetyl methamphetamine, benzaldehyde and benzyl methyl ketone. The compound n-methyl methamphetamine, nacetyl methamphetamine is a compound that will form n-formyl methamphetamine which is a key intermediate and impurity product of the synthesis of methamphetamine by the Leuckart route. In the Leuckart route, benzaldehyde is used as a starting material for the synthesis of benzyl methyl ketone or P2P (Phenyl-2-propanone).
