Antioxidant test of sweet orange (Citrus Sinensis L.) peel extract in ethanol has been carried out.
To reduce ethanol waste, ethanol-water was used as the solvent. The extract was tested for its antioxidant activity and toxicity. The purpose of this study was to determine the extract of sweet orange peel on: (1) yield (2) main components (3) antioxidant activity, (4) toxicity. This research was carried out in several stages: macerate sweet orange peel in ethanol (96%), ethanol (96%)-water (2v: 1v), ethanol (96%)-water (1v: 1v), analysis of extract’s main components by GC-MS, test its antioxidant activity with DPPH, its toxicity against Artemia salina. From this research, it was found that for ethanol (96%) extract: yield 2,67%; main components: hexamethoxiflavone, 4H-1-benzopyran-4-on, hexadecanoic acid, octnearrien1-ol, terasiloxane; strong active antioxidant (IC50 = 16,0306 ppm), toxic to Artemia salina (LC50 = 281,1900 ppm). For ethanol (96%)-water (2v: 1v) as solvent: yield 2.61%; main components: sucrose, sorbose, ferulic acid, 9,11,15-octnearrien-1-ol, 9-octadesenamid; strong active antioxidant (IC50 =14.3716 ppm), toxic to Artemia salina (LC50 = 337.2097 ppm).
