Besides being able to synthesize silica from its precursors, silica can also be extracted through natural
materials, one of which is from geothermal solid waste at geothermal power plant sites. In this research,
synthesis of silica compounds from geothermal solid waste has been carried out using the sol-gel method. The purpose of this study was to obtain silica compounds from geothermal solid waste with various implementations of adding HCl in the sol-gel method, namely by drip method and flow method. The silica products formed were then characterized based on their chemical bonding, crystallinity and particle size. The HCl material used in this study was varied at the level of pro-analyst (p.a) and laboratory grade purity. The silica products obtained had yields of 25.74% and 9.93% for the drip method and flow method, respectively. The characterizations of the resulting silica products include FTIR analysis for the bonding characteristics of the compounds, X-ray diffraction for the crystallinity character and the dynamic light scattering method to determine the product particle size. Characteristics of chemical bonding from wave number absorption analysis with FITR indicated that the resulting product was silica.
