Abstract

Neuroblastoma is a type of neuroendocrine cancer that is very dangerous, but can be cured if early
detected and appropriate therapy. Center for Radioisotope and Radiopharmaceutical Technology BATAN
Serpong has been succeeded in making labelled compounds131I-MIBG for early detection of neuroblastoma
cancer. Iodine-131 (I-131)-MIBG was prepared by reacting 127I-MIBG sulfate and Na131I using CuSO4
catalyst and reducing agent as sodium bisulphite, pH = 3-4 with CH3COOH.The solution was refluxed at a
temperature of 1600C so that the resulting of 131I-MIBG labelled compound.The radiochemical purity of the
product was tested by chromatographic, using whatman paper number 1 asstationary phase and the mobile
phase containing of n.butanol liquid mixture: acetic acid: water (5: 2: 1), and radionuclide purity test using
gamma spectrometer. Radiochemical and radionuclide purity131I-MIBG (diagnosis) was carried out
of99.72% ± 0.32 and 99.99% ± 0.00 respectively. The labelled compound 131I-MIBG (therapy) with
radioactivity dose of 25 mCi / vial was obtained of radiochemical purity = 98.33% ± 0.53 and radionuclide
purity = 99.99% ± 0.00, whereas radiochemical purity and radionuclide purity of131I-MIBG (therapy) with
radioactivity dose of 50 mCi / vial was obtained 98.83% ± 0.32 and 99.99% ± 0.00 respectively.
