Abstract

Silica xerogel which was derived from bagasse ash originated from the solid waste of sugar cane industry
was used as Cd ion adsorbent. This silica xerogel was synthesized using the sol-gel method on pH 5 and was
applied to adsorp Cd ion in various contact time, pH, initial Cd ion concentration and temperature. It was
found out that the optimum pH for Cd ion adsorption was at pH 7 using 0.01 g of silica xerogel within 60
minutes of contact time. The adsorption isotherm follows the Langmuir isotherm model (R2 = 0.997) and adsorption kinetics followed the pseudo-second-order model (R2 = 0.998).
